Health Through Awareness

While we strongly support a Plant Based Lifestyle and nutritional base, even some 'junk food vegans' can be addicted to many foods.  High sugar content 'junk food' can be almost as bad as illegal drug or alcohol abuse on a persons health, state of mind and longevity.

Some drugs are more addictive than others. Thanks to scientific brain imaging, it has been discovered the addictive drugs and other substances become addictive because they change the neurons in the brain, as well as the way they behave. Most commonly, drugs impact the areas of the brain that recognize pleasure.

As the drug takes its hold, things that once seemed enjoyable no longer create the same pleasurable feelings, while the brain begins to perceive the drug itself as a source of pleasure. Drug may also affect the areas of the brain responsible for judgment, decision-making, and memory. This is one reason why drug abusers may behave recklessly, and why they begin engaging in riskier and riskier behavior in order to obtain the drug.

Nutritional Support and Treatment.

Like Cancer and Heart Disease, drug and substance abuse can be considered a 'lifestyle disease'.  It effects ten's of thousands of people every year.  One of the best supportive methodologies is a nutritional approach focused on a Plant Based Lifestyle.  It will help cleanse the body of toxins that build up with drugs/alcohol as well as just a lousy diet in general.  Many drug/alcohol abusers and addicts have pretty lousy nutritional practices and that, in itself, can futher damage the physical/mental impact of the drug/alcohol substance.

A body cleanse process while undergoing treatment can go a long way to rid the body of it's addiction while helping the natural immune system, damaged by the substance abuse, heal and rebuild.

Available Programs.

There are many programs available to drug/alcohol abusers and addicts.  We have been asked to publish a couple of these programs and their web sites for your reference.  These programs, are invaluable to aid drug/alcohol abusers/addicts to 'kick the habit'.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a great program and less formal and very confidential.

There are a variety of factors that can contribute to addiction. On the surface, addiction can be caused by physical changes in the brain, that make the body crave certain types of drugs. However, genetic and environmental risk factors can contribute to addiction on a much deeper level. Our drug addiction page describes different types of drugs, what can cause addiction, certain symptoms, even complications after becoming dependent on drugs.
